① CONCEPT｜白の建築に、重さと記憶を宿す。
Giving weight and memory to white architecture.
White is a visually powerful color in LEGO, but it often brings an unintended sense of lightness, novelty, or even a toy-like impression.
In this work, I embraced that challenge and explored how shadow, density, and reductive design could restore a sense of gravity and historical presence to a white architectural form.
白という色は、レゴでは美しく映える一方で、軽さや新しさ、玩具的な印象を強く与えてしまう側面があります。
本作ではその性質を前提に、陰影と密度、そして引き算の設計によって、歴史ある建築としての威厳をどこまで表現できるかをテーマとしました。
② OVERVIEW｜作品概要
This work is an original LEGO modular building inspired by Former Kobe Settlement No.15, a historic structure located in Kobe, Japan.
Rather than pursuing a literal scale model, the project focuses on identifying and reconstructing the architectural essence of the building within the constraints of the LEGO modular standard.
本作は、神戸旧居留地に現存する歴史的建築「旧神戸居留地十五番館」をモチーフとした、LEGOオリジナルのモジュール建築作品です。
実在建築をそのまま縮小再現するのではなく、モジュール規格という制約の中で「この建物らしさとは何か」を抽出し、再構成することを目的としています。
③ DETAILS｜ディテール
One of the most distinctive features of the building is the open veranda and colonnade on the south-facing second floor.
To naturally guide the viewer’s eye to this area, ornamentation on the surrounding walls was intentionally minimized.
Although the facade is predominantly white, subtle changes in depth and layering create natural shadows,
allowing the building to reveal different expressions depending on light and viewing angle.
建物の中でも特に印象的なのが、南面2階に設けられた開放的なベランダと列柱です。
この部分に最初に視線が集まるよう、壁面の装飾はあえて抑制しています。
白一色の構成でありながら単調にならないよう、ブロックの段差や奥行きによって影が生まれる壁面構成とし、時間帯や光の向きによって表情が変化する立体感を意識しました。
④ DESIGN & PROCESS｜制作意図と設計判断
During the design process, I visited the site to study not only the building’s form but also its presence within the surrounding urban context.
Due to the LEGO modular standard, the available footprint was limited to roughly 60% of the original building.
Instead of distorting the proportions, I reduced and reorganized window placements to preserve the building’s recognizable character.
To counterbalance the lightness of white, sand green and dark gray elements were used sparingly to add visual weight and depth to the overall composition.
制作にあたっては現地を訪れ、建物単体としての造形だけでなく、街並みの中で十五番館がどのような存在感を持っているのかを観察しました。
LEGOモジュール規格に合わせるため、実際の建築に対して使用できる敷地面積は約60%に制限されています。
縦横比を無理に歪めるのではなく、窓の数や配置を整理することで、建物の印象を損なわない再設計を行いました。
また、白い建築が持つ軽さを抑えるため、サンドグリーンやダークグレーを最小限に用い、全体のトーンを引き締めています。
⑤ INTERIOR｜内部構造と物語
The interior was not designed as a faithful replica of the real building, but rather as a reinterpretation that emphasizes playfulness and narrative.
The first floor is imagined as a restaurant bar inspired by Western-style mansions found in Kobe, featuring a chandelier, bar counter, and wine cellar within an open, double-height space.
The second floor houses a LEGO store.
The idea of browsing LEGO sets while still in high spirits after a drink adds a slightly indulgent, playful narrative to the building.
内部空間は、実建築を忠実に再現するのではなく、
レゴならではの遊び心と物語性を優先して再解釈しています。
1階は、神戸の洋館文化を意識したレストランバーとして構成しました。
吹き抜けの空間にシャンデリアを設け、
バーカウンターやワインセラーを配置することで、
大人が集う場所としての雰囲気を表現しています。
2階にはレゴストアを設けました。
お酒を飲んで気分が高揚したままレゴを選ぶ——
そんな少し背徳的で、それでいて楽しい時間を想像しながら設計しています。
⑥ HISTORICAL CONTEXT｜史実との関係
Former Kobe Settlement No.15 was built around 1880 as a two-story brick-and-timber commercial building.
It is the only surviving merchant house from the former foreign settlement in Kobe.
After being completely destroyed in the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, the building was reconstructed using approximately 70% of the original materials and equipped with seismic isolation technology, making it a notable example of balancing historical preservation with disaster prevention.
十五番館は1880年頃に建設された、木骨煉瓦造・2階建ての商館建築です。
神戸旧居留地に現存する唯一の商館として、当時の街並みを今に伝える貴重な存在となっています。
1995年の阪神・淡路大震災で全壊しましたが、倒壊前の部材を約70%再利用し、免震構造を取り入れることで、建設当初の姿に忠実に復元されました。
歴史的建築の保存と防災を両立した事例としても評価されています。
⑦ EXHIBITION｜展示・掲載実績
This work was exhibited as part of a large-scale modular city at JAPAN BrickFest 2025, one of the largest LEGO fan events in Asia.
It was later displayed at the observation gallery of Uroko no Ie, a historic Western-style residence in Kobe’s Kitano district.
本作は、JAPAN BrickFest 2025 にて神戸モジュールシティ展示プロジェクトの作品として発表されました。
その後、神戸・北野の歴史的洋館うろこの家展望ギャラリーにて長期展示され、多くのメディア媒体で取り上げていただきました。
また、うろこの家ギャラリーにて同時開催としてKeibricks初となる写真作品展も合わせて展示いたしました。
全国から集まったレゴ®ビルダーによる力作のモジュール作品が、うろこの家ギャラリーで展示されました。
これは2025年7月に開催されたアジア最大のレゴ 本社公認の国際ハブイベント《JAPAN BrickFest 2025》において、目玉作品として展示された37名のビルダーによる壮大でダイナミックな街並みの作品で、歴史ある洋館が多数再現されているのが特徴です。一つ一つの作品にさまざまな物語が詰まっており、お子様から大人まで楽しめる、視覚も想像力も刺激される展示イベントです。
